Measure Using an Existing Shirt (Recommended)

Already have a shirt you love the fit of? Great — you're halfway there.
This is the easiest method (and our favorite). No mirror balancing acts, no asking someone to measure your back. Just lay your shirt flat, grab a tape measure, and follow along. We’ll guide you through the rest — stitch by stitch.

How to Measure for the Perfect Collar

  • Lay the shirt flat and button it all the way to the top.
  • Smooth out the collar so it lies flat and open.

  • Measure from the center of the button to the center of the buttonhole on the opposite side of the collar.
  • This measurement is your shirt’s neck size.

Tip: This method reflects the actual collar size labeled on dress shirts (e.g., 39 cm or 15.5 in). Make sure the collar isn’t stretched or wrinkled for the most accurate reading.

How to Measure for a Perfect Shoulder Fit

  • Lay the shirt flat with the front side facing down, smoothing out any wrinkles.
  • Locate the shoulder seams — these are the stitched lines where the sleeves attach to the body of the shirt.

  • Measure straight across the back from the outer edge of one shoulder seam to the outer edge of the other shoulder seam, following a straight line across the yoke (the upper back panel).
  • That distance is the shoulder width.

Tip: Make sure the measuring tape stays horizontal and aligned with the shoulder seam edges, not angled or curved.

How to Measure for a Perfect Chest Fit

  • Lay the shirt flat with the front side facing up and button it fully.
  • Smooth out any wrinkles, especially across the chest area.

  • Measure straight across the shirt from the left armpit seam to the right armpit seam — this is the widest part of the chest area.
  • Send us this number — we’ll handle the rest!

Tip: Keep the measuring tape horizontal and make sure the shirt is lying completely flat for the most accurate result.

How to Measure for a Perfect Waist Fit

  • Lay the shirt flat, fully buttoned, and smooth out any wrinkles.
  • Look for the narrowest part of the shirt, usually located around the waist area. As a reference, this is typically found between the fifth and sixth buttons from the top.
  • Measure straight across from one side seam to the other at that point.
  • Send us this number — we’ll use it to determine the correct waist fit.

Tip: Make sure the measuring tape is flat and level, and the shirt is lying completely smooth to get an accurate reading.

How to Measure for a Perfect Hip Fit

  • Lay the shirt flat, buttoned up, and smooth out any wrinkles.
  • Find the bottom hem of the shirt — this is where the shirt ends and typically covers the hips.

  • Measure straight across the bottom from one side seam to the other.
  • Send us this number — we’ll use it to determine your shirt’s hip fit.

Tip: Make sure the shirt is fully flat and the tape is perfectly horizontal along the hem for the most accurate measurement.

How to Measure for a Perfect Armhole Fit

  • Lay the shirt flat with the front side facing up and smooth out any wrinkles around the armhole area.
  • Measure along the curved seam where the sleeve is attached to the body of the shirt — starting at the top of the shoulder seam, following the curve down to the armpit, and ending where the curve finishes at the bottom of the armhole.
  • Follow the seam line exactly — do not measure in a straight line.
  • Send us the total curved length — this is your armhole measurement.

How to Measure for a Perfect Bicep Fit

  • Lay the shirt flat with the sleeve extended and smoothed out.
  • From the armhole seam, measure 8 cm down along the sleeve’s edge — this marks the point where you’ll measure the bicep.

  • At that 8 cm point, measure straight across the sleeve from one edge to the other.
  • Send us this number — we’ll calculate the full bicep circumference from it.

How to Measure for a Perfect Wrist Fit

  • Lay the sleeve flat with the cuff unbuttoned.
  • At the stitched edge of the cuff, just before the button area begins, place the measuring tape.
  • Measure straight across to the opposite side of the cuff, stopping at the same stitching line.

How to Measure for a Perfect Sleeve Length

1. Option 1: Shirt Laid Flat

  • Lay the shirt face down on a flat surface and smooth out the sleeve.
  • Place the measuring tape at the shoulder seam, right where the sleeve is attached.
  • Run the tape along the top edge of the sleeve all the way down to the edge of the cuff.

2. Option 2: Shirt Hanging (As Shown in Image)

  • Hang the shirt on a hanger so it hangs straight.
  • Start the tape at the shoulder seam (top of the sleeve).

  • Measure down the outer edge of the sleeve to the end of the cuff.
  • This gives the same measurement as the flat method — just make sure the sleeve is fully extended

How to Measure for a Perfect Shirt Length

  • Lay the shirt flat with the front side facing down, and smooth out any wrinkles.
  • Place the start of the measuring tape at the center of the back collar seam, right where the collar band meets the yoke.

  • Extend the tape straight down the back of the shirt, keeping it vertical.
  • Stop at the bottom hem and take the measurement — this is the shirt’s total length.

Tip: Be sure to measure in a straight line, not following the curve of the fabric. The tape should go vertically from the collar seam to the lowest point of the hem.
